Glossary

Transponder Key – An ignition key with a transponder microchip embedded in the plastic head. The transponder microchip stores an alphanumeric code that is sent to the vehicle when the key is inserted into the ignition lock.  If vehicle does not recognize the alphanumeric code, the vehicle will not start. Every transponder key has a unique alphanumeric code.  No two are the same.

Transponder Value – Alphanumeric code stored in transponder microchip

Chip Key – Another name for a transponder key.

RFID – Radio Frequency Identification.  This is the technology used to create a transponder immobilizer system.
